With a local guide and DLPHOTO instructor in tow, discover the culture and history of Cape Town’s marginalised areas on City Sightseeing’s LaGuGu Township Tour. An unforgettable and enriching experience, you’ll also learn outdoor photography techniques that will benefit you for a lifetime, with an emphasis on the composition, focus and lighting techniques typically at play in street and travel photography. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, we’ll end our day at Gugulethu’s legendary Mzoli’s Restaurant.

Beginner workshop. No experience needed.
Instructor David Lazarus is a veteran photographer with over a decade of international industry experience and a love for street portraiture and travel photography. With a conversational, practical approach, David will guide you through a scenic walkthrough of pro photography techniques in Cape Town’s townships of Langa and Gugulethu on a tour provided by City Sightseeing South Africa.
Meeting on Long Street in the Cape Town CBD, the day begins with a primer on using your camera and shooting in manual before departing on City Sightseeing’s LaGuGu Taxi Bus. Other photography concepts covered on the tour include composition, lighting and focus, and how to achieve that perfect shot in some of the cities most scenic and historical areas.
The trip includes an hour-long walking tour of Langa with a local guide, visiting landmarks such as the old dompas office, now a Township Heritage Museum; Brenda Fassie’s house; Sobukwe Square; and the Old Beer Hall. Moving on to Gugulethu, we explore the Gugulethu Seven Monument and end the day with a meal at the legendary Mzoli’s Restaurant, a social hub of the local community.
